Sam Dastor gives us a pitch-perfect Inspector Ghote, both humorous and charming, in this engaging mystery. The Bombay policeman is hopeful of finally being assigned to a case worthy of his skills but must resign himself to the relentless busywork handed down to him on a daily basis by his autocratic boss. Then one morning Ghote finds the severed head of a colleague placed in the trash bin in his office and becomes determined to solve the murder. Dastor also does an excellent job with the supporting characters, subtly altering his accent and voice for each member of the well-rounded cast. His depiction of Ghote's wife, Protima, is particularly memorable. K.O. (c) AudioFile 2011, Portland, Maine
