Boating

WHEREFORE BOATING ADVENTURE? • Action and adventure afloat depend upon experience and point of view.

Reese Giese PWC Racer • Reese Giese got her PWC racing career off to a quick start. In 2020, she grabbed the hole shot and led her first moto from start to finish. Today the 16-year-old is a rising star in the sport. In 2021, at the IJSBA World Finals in Havasu, Arizona, she rode championships in the Pro Am Women’s 1500 and the Junior 13-15 Four-Stroke Lites class. The latter was the first world title won on the new four-stroke Yamaha SuperJet stand-up. In 2022, she moved up from the junior classes and raced her SuperJet to second overall in the Four-Stroke Lites class, winning fourth overall in Women’s Lites and third in Four-Stroke Slalom, all against some of the most talented riders in the world. A straight-A junior at Pinnacle High School in Phoenix, we interrupted her homework for a quick interview.

LONG-DISTANCE CRUISING • Many boaters have never done any long-distance cruising. But there’s real adventure ahead for those who do. Of course, some prep is necessary for the trip to be successful. Let’s put basic cruising knowledge to the test.

INSIDE THE ISSUE

LIFE JACKETS • While any life jacket is better than no life jacket, some styles work better than others, depending on the task at hand. Watersports enthusiasts benefit from snug, secure protection. Recreational boaters may prefer a less-restrictive feel. And then there are those who need flotation and protection from the elements. Here’s a comparison of three standout choices.
