We’re all going on a summer holiday • There is more to a show than a ribbon. As Antonia Gallop reflects, it’s where lifelong friendships are made, but low entries and increasing costs means that classes may be lost forever – that’s a high price to pay.

A warm welcome to all as the season heats up • Familiar faces and newcomers were on fine form as they entertained audiences from Hertfordshire to Lincoln, whilst competing for much coveted placings. Karen Morris, chair of the SDA reports.

Good to be back in Devon • Jeff Osborne says it was wonderful to head back to the west country, then with the compass pointing in the opposite direction they headed east to Suffolk, then back on the road to the Royal Bath & West before treading on home turf again.

British Driving Society 58th Annual Show • We were certainly blessed with wall-to-wall sunshine for the Annual Show says event organiser Julie Elliott, it is now held in the well-established new position in Windsor Great Park, complete with a drive past in front of the Duke of Edinburgh.

In a class of their own • Those lucky enough to attend the Suffolk County Show this year were treated to a spectacle of traditional carriages unlike any other. Liz Harcombe reports.
