Pier pressure for Antonia

Celebrating half a century • In this issue we look back at 50 years of driving trials and ahead to the Single Horse World Championships. Also remember, remember the 5th of November.

We’re all pulling together • Antonia Gallop says by working together we can achieve so much. Whether you are competing or simply driving out with friends, the society recognises the need to support those who take time to support others.

A little help from our friends • Eileen Cornish Carriage Driving Lead, says where would RDA Carriage Driving be without their very special benefactors? Here she looks at the difference their support and inspiration has made to both helpers and participants.

Shining across the board • Hope Nebbeling takes a look at Hackneys who continue to highlight the versatility of this rare breed, from showing to scurry, they are always in the ribbons.

Living a childhood dream • Sandra Fisher meets up with a member of the SDA group who explains how she caught the scurry bug from a very early age, and when a friend needed a helping hand this was an opportunity too good to miss.

The 2022 season is hotting up – the story so far… • The going is good, and the courses are at times more than testing, but as Jeff Osborne reports the competition is as keen as ever with drivers and ponies finding their form, giving audiences something to cheer about.

As the summer heats up the competition is hot • From north to south, the season continues with plenty of fast-paced action and crowd-pleasing performances. Carole Davenport reports from the county shows and game fairs across the country.

Taking the sting out of summer’s tail • As we spend more time out doors with our equines it also means having to cope with a few unwanted visitors. Samantha Sinclair, chief executive officer at Aniwell takes a look at the issues caused by insects and how to best deal with them.

Take the right course • Laura Hood, head of education development at The British Horse Society explains how gaining a first aid qualification or taking a refresher course can help both humans and horses in times of an emergency.

Schooling solutions • Suitable for all levels and abilities, these exercises are great fun to drive and will work wonders for your horse’s training. Sue Mart from Bennington Carriages explains what’s involved.

What a wonderful double celebration • It was celebrations all round for the BDS Annual Show at Smith’s Lawn. The predicted rain showers stayed away providing a perfect day out for both competitors and visitors alike. Show organiser, Julie Elliott reports.

Harnessing a driving ambition • Anne Holland catches up with a man drawn to working with horses from an early age whose determination made a dream come true.

Delivering a vision of tradition and style • From castles to country estates, Liz Harcombe reports on a visual feast for competitors and visitors alike, as a trio of events, showcase the best of traditional driving.

A Royal welcome • Royal Windsor Horse Show is always a firm favourite on the equestrian calendar and one of the few events that feature driving in one form or other on each of the four days. Antonia Gallop reports.

Plenty to write home about • Amy Mundell says off the back of two disjointed years of driving sport it is great...
