Get your thinking caps on • It’s that time of the year when British Carriagedriving is looking for new members to join the council and help with planning and decision making – do you know of someone who fits the bill?

Ladies and Gentlemen • When it comes to gender equality, Antonia Gallop says you only have to look to the equestrian world where organisations like the BDS have been getting the balance right for generations.

A Summer of Hackneys • Fiona Moonan looks back over a busy summer season of showcasing the breed and ahead to the Horse of the Year Show, where the Hackney is well and truly represented and sure to light up the international arena.

Wowing the crowds • Next stop for the Scurry Driving Association was the Great Yorkshire Show, one of the biggest in the calendar with the largest ring and ever enthusiastic crowd. Karen Morris SDA chair reports.

Have you got your tickets? • Jeff Osborne says the Horse of the Year Show is in sight, as they head this month to the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham, ready to take on the group’s ultimate challenge to determine this year’s champions.

And the shows keep coming… • Crossing seas and counties, it is proving to be an action packed season for scurry drivers and their supporters. Carole Davenport reports.

Beware the mighty oak and its acorns • Autumn in the New Forest heralds the return of pigs, not always a favourite with horses and ponies but their presence is an important one, as they clear the ground of acorns which, when consumed by equines can cause serious health issues. If you have oak trees in your paddocks, or your horse has access to them, the British Horse Society has the following advice.

Are you covered? • It can be a bit of a minefield negotiating your way through insurance cover, particularly for grooms and backsteppers. Fiona Gordon-Clarke from Carriagehouse Insurance has put together this straightforward guide, but says if in doubt – ask.
